The original Dead Rising may have borrowed its core concept from horror classic Dawn of the Dead, but the level of absurdity in that game was completely unlike anything that preceded it. Sure, it can be played on the straight and narrow, with a variety of traditional firearms and blades scattered throughout the suburban mall, but who didn't swap his or her pistol or knife for a soccer ball, cactus, or stuffed teddy bear whenever possible? The process of killing zombies in increasingly bizarre manners felt more important than the end result, and Dead Rising was all the better for it.

Scientists have identified one of only a few known genetic contributions to the sense of smell. Most, but not all, people detect a distinct sulfurous odor in their urine shortly after eating asparagus. Sensory testing demonstrated that some do not produce the odor while others do not smell it. DNA analyses revealed that the inability to smell the odor was linked to genetic variation within a family of olfactory receptors.

Neighborhood mercury spill causes $1/4 Mil in damage

Hubert Jean found 6 ounces of mercury in his garage, poured some of the liquid metal on his driveway and gave some to neighborhood kids. Some neighborhood children walked by, saw the mercury and started to play with it. The toxic material was carried into four other houses, including the children's homes.
