Rick Sanchez Is Fired From CNN

Posted:

Rick Sanchezs outrageous comment calling Jon Stewart a bigot on Pete Dominicks show is circulating through the Internet. He also implied that CNN is run by Jews. The breaking news is that hes fired. The irony is that he called Stewart a bigot while discussing media balance and objectivity. Mediaite: CNN released this statement today: Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well. His exact words were: USA Today: I think to some extent Jon Stewart and [Stephen] Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewarts a bigot, he said. I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, Im so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine. When comedian and political satirist Dominick asked who Stewart is bigoted against, Sanchez said everybody else whos not like him. When Dominick suggested Jews (such as Stewart) have some sense of what its like to be an oppressed minority and saying that Jews are as much minorities as Latinos in the U.S. (Sanchez is Cuban-American), he snickered. Yeah, Sanchez said, sarcastically. Very powerless people [snickers] Hes such a minority, I mean, you know [sarcastically] Please, what are you kidding? Im telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they the people in this country who are Jewish are an oppressed minority? Yeah. Sanchez eventually retreated: All right, Ill take the word bigot back; Ill say prejudicial uninformed. Click here to view the embedded video. Why isnt Glenn Beck fired? Fox does not hold their employees to the same standard and what a shame. Becks going down the drain and Fox ratings have gone down 21%. Perhaps Glenn Beck can throw rallies for a living. Rush Limbaugh is not simply an entertainer, yet hes allowed to spew disinformation into the publics ears without consequence. Im not sure whether he should be fired or not, but Im pleased that CNN does not allow this kind of blatant prejudice.

John Steinbeck, Michael Moore, and the Burgeoning Role of Planetary Patriotism

My father, John Steinbeck, was a man who held human history in great reverence, and in particular the biographies of those people who had risked their lives, their fortunes, and their worldly honor to defend the rights and prerogatives of those who were powerless to defend themselves. Under his guidance I read Herodotus and Thucydides before I got around to "Wind in the Willows."
