Doctor busted for 'activist' walking Posted: 16 May 2010 04:40 PM PDT Dr. Joe Walsh is a physician who deals with the medical complications of obesity. He encourages patients to walk, to make walking part of their daily lives by, for example, walking to work. To set a good example, he walks to work, a trek of about two miles, good weather or bad. That's where the trouble began... |

Disney Announces Closing Date for Star Wars Rides Posted: 16 May 2010 02:30 PM PDT Disney Parks is overhauling the Star Wars-themed Star Tours rides at Disneyland and Walt Disney World later this year. It's a motion simulator ride that was on the cutting edge when it launched about 20 years ago. But now, it's a 20-year-old ride in need of an overhaul -- that's a "re-imagining" in Disney-speak. |

George Will: European Union, a coalition of irresponsibility Posted: 16 May 2010 01:51 PM PDT Greece represents a perverse aspiration. A society with "more takers than makers," more people taking benefits from government than there are people making goods and services that funds government. By socializing the consequences of Greece's misgovernment, Europe has become the world's leading producer of a toxic product -- moral hazard. |
Gorillas Suffer as Eco-Tourists Get Too Close Posted: 16 May 2010 01:30 PM PDT Gorillas are being dangerously stressed by tourists whose attentions are disrupting the animals' feeding routines and making them aggressive. The discovery – made by researchers who have just completed a year-long study of the great apes at Bai Hokou in the Central African Republic – has important implications for the tourism industry. |

Posted: 16 May 2010 11:40 AM PDT It was a perfect confluence of an action movie, about video games, which spawned toys and featured an incredible soundtrack. Even those not old enough to have seen in it in theaters and then fork countless quarters into its arcade game counterpart have been pulled in by the movie's premise and mythology of a living world inside computer. |

Daylight Crescent Moon and Venus Rising: APOD May 16th 2010 Posted: 16 May 2010 11:11 AM PDT There's something behind these clouds. Those faint graceful arcs, upon inspection, are actually far, far in the distance. They are the Earth's Moon and the planet Venus. Both the Moon and Venus bright enough to be seen during the day, and both are quite capable of showing a crescent phase... taken from Budapest, Hungary. |

An Internet White Pages For Stalkers (and it's not Facebook) Posted: 16 May 2010 10:10 AM PDT Concerned about the security of your personal information on the internet? While having your Facebook profile show up in search engines for anyone talented enough to Google your name may be worrisome, it's far from the worst case scenario. |

Democracy gets a test in China Posted: 16 May 2010 09:40 AM PDT Frustrated by what they say is China's intransigence, the lawmakers had hoped that the move--which will likely see them all re-elected--would send the strongest message yet to Beijing since Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997.However, the outcome of the vote is seen as academic since all pro-Beijing political parties have boycotted... |
