Escapee Tells of Horrors in North Korean Prison Camp

Shin Dong-hyuk is the only known person to have escaped to South Korea from a prison camp in the North. Shin says he was tortured, he saw his mother hanged, and he saw his brother shot to death. He is a thin, short, shy man, with quick, wary eyes, a baby face, and sinewy arms bowed from childhood labors. He bears numerous other scars from torture.
