Al Franken (D.-Minn.) told more than 2,000 bloggers and organizers attending the Netroots Nation conference in Las Vegas on July 24, 2010, that our media system is at risk everywhere we turn - from our free speech online to the growing power of companies who own a massive number of media outlets. |

Intel develops first photonics-based, 50Gbps chip Posted: 27 Jul 2010 04:40 PM PDT Intel provided a peek at the future of processors today by revealing the first instance of a chip using complete photonics to send data. Digg Vs. Reddit: The Infographic Posted: 27 Jul 2010 03:14 PM PDT There's always been a form of healthy rivalry between Reddit and Digg, and its respective user bases. I'm one of those indifferent people who think there's plenty of room for multiple sites of the kind, and that these sites actually make each other stronger and better in their state of co-existence. Rising tide lifting all boats and all that.Ne |

Jellyfish eye genes suggest a common origin for animal eyes Posted: 27 Jul 2010 03:00 PM PDT Jellyfish may seem like simple blobs but some have surprisingly sophisticated features, including eyes. These are often just light-sensitive pits but species like the root-arm medusa have complex 'camera' eyes, with a lens that focuses light onto a retina. Not only are these organs superficially similar to ours, they're also constructed from the... |
